Stylish stuff

July 4, 2011 under Ideas

I will be searching the internet looking for stylish furniture and home accessories that I love.  Some will co-ordinate beautifully with
my handmade creations so I will pair them up with my canvas wall art or handmade cushions.
If you spot anything you think will go really well with one of my creations I would love to hear from you.

black contemporary canvas wall art / John Lewis chairYellow and black 3d canvas wall art with John Lewis chair

I love this colour and have used it in my kitchen
and conservatory.  This fabulous chair from John Lewis would be the perfect match for my yellow and black contemporary canvas wall art creations.

Please see these yellow and black contemporary pictures here

Blue and white hydrangea canvas wall art / John Lewis sofa

Hydrangea 3d canvas wall art with duck egg blue sofa

I have used a duck egg blue for my handmade hydrangea wall art which looks lovely with white, it brings a fresh, contemporary style to a room.  I have used lots of hand stitched petals which have been ‘built up’ to give the wonderful 3d effect. I saw this simple, contemporary sofa from John Lewis which I thought would look great with this wall art.  What do you think?

Handmade 3d canvas wall art with BHS table lamp
This handmade canvas wall art will bring an unusual touch to a room and I have found this contemporary table lamp from BHS which has a similar tone of green.  Don’t be afraid to mix styles, the rustic feel of these pictures goes well with the contemporary lamp.

Black and cream 3d canvas wall art with BHS lamp

I love this lamp from BHS, it has spanish style wrought iron and a simple contemporary shade.  The black and cream 3d canvas wall art I have created would go with the lamp perfectly.  Please see this black and cream 3d wall art here

Handmade 3d canvas wall art in Yellow, black and white
I am not a big fan of black leather sofas but I saw this one from House of Frasers Linea range and liked the style.  If you have a black leather sofa in a living room I would add some accessories to bring a cosy feel to the room and also inject some femininity.  The yellow, black and white 3d canvas wall art that I have created is bright and cheerful and will draw your eyes away from a piece of furniture that may dominate a room.  In this particular canvas wall art I have used black lace which gives the picture a stylish and feminine touch.  Using other accessories in the room with the same colours will give a stylish, contemporary look.
Girls wall art decoration and pretty bed linen
This gorgeous bed linen from Debenhams is adorable.  The 3d flower canvas wall art I created originally for my daughters room would match perfectly.  I offer this canvas art as a single picture or a set of 2.

Do's and don'ts on home decor

May 21, 2011 under Do's and dont's on home decor

Many of us are a little scared of decorating a room, in fact this can be one of the reasons we delay things.
It may mean a lot of time and effort and will we actually like the end result. Getting your home just the way
you like it takes a little patience and a lot of trial and error.  Once you are inspired and find your own personal
style you will be one step closer to home happiness!

Here are a few do’s and dont’s to keep in mind while shopping for accessories for the home:

Do

Use neutrals and make them monochromatic throughout the room, or pick one colour, maybe a bright colour,
and add it in minimal places. Try a burst of bright red or yellow-green.

Use odd numbers: When grouping items, odd quantities - 1, 3, 5 - is more interesting to the eye than an even-numbered ensemble.

Keep collections together: If you have collections of items, such as travel souvenirs or ornaments, place them
in a group together. Don’t put them all over the house, they look much better if you put them in one area.

Don’t

Be blinded by bargains: Just because an item has 75 percent off does not mean you need it. Don’t you find that
it is very compelling to buy something that is cheap, even though it may not be your style or have the quality you want?
Over time you will end up with lots of bargain items that don’t look right together.
These items will collect dust instead of compliments.

Over accessorise:  For a room, buy three large

scale items, rather than cluttering the room with
a lot of smaller items.

Hang art or wall objects too high: Don’t hang anything more than 12 inches above a surface such as a side table or
end table. If it gets above 12 inches, it’ll disconnect that focal point. For blank walls with no furniture, hang art at
eye level. Eye-level is about 5 and a half feet .

For many people, pinpointing their own style is harder than it sounds.  Looking through home style magazines is a
good way of finding colours and styles that your eye is drawn to. Enjoy doing some research into the styles that work
and getting ideas on use of colour, you will soon be making decisions on the look you want to acheive.
Don’t over look items you may already own to use in your decor, it is not always about buying new items, the pieces
you own have meaning and if it’s an item you have always loved, this can still be used, maybe use this as an inspiration
to the style you will create.

Unique wall art will give your home individual style

Handmade and hand painted 3d wall art

Welcome to the Craft on Canvas blog which will give a ‘behind the scenes’ look at a business that has been started out of a love of home interiors. It will also give tips and advice on how to achieve a great look in a room without spending a fortune.

I started Craft on Canvas with the aim of creating unique room decor for those who want to give their home an individual look. The wall art I create is handmade and hand painted using artist quality materials.

I am not a trained interior designer but have a passion for art and home interiors, I love to find unusual accessories that make a room special and individual. If you are looking for something unusual and unique there are many designer/makers in the UK producing some beautiful products that you wouldn’t find on the high street and my blog will show some of the products available and where

to buy.  Although I don’t tend to follow trends and go with what’s in fashion I still like to keep up to date on styles and colours.

The tips and advice I suggest on my blog are simple, easy steps that can make a real difference to a room.

Please visit my website and browse the designs I have created.

Enjoy my blog and please feel free to make any comments.  If you have any suggestions on what you would like to see on my blog, please let me know.
